I’m not sure about the sfx, it is something that describes stiffening, but I’m not sure if it’s a positive or a negative feeling. It might be that he tightens his grip, or that he gets tense. But as Sydney replies so, I think maybe Ashley wanted to continue his story about where he went, but Sydney is uninterested.

Here are the translations the “kirii/kiritto”-sfx has:
